Attributes and Issues of the Distance Education leader was my research topic for this course. I chose this topic as a supervisor for over 10 years, because of my interest in new student supports in the online distance learning environment. This course was very enlightening,
telling of a unique and more complex form of leadership in the field of distance teaching, different than other types of leadership. The literature in this course depicts leaders facing many challenges, accommodating learners who are more sophisticated in technology, and time-pressed, demanding, and expecting efficient, and quality educational services (Burge, 2007). Leading in distance education emphasizes a more team-oriented approach to learning—student needs first, which aligns with my goal to develop my instructional design, course development storyboard and management plan from DETT 607 and OMDE 608 respectively.
